The staff of the anime adaptation of the manhwa Solo Leveling by writer Chugong and the late artist DUBU (REDICE Studio) revealed in a video on Saturday that the series will receive a second season, which will be called Solo Leveling Season 2 -Arise from the Shadow-.
On January 6, the animation made its debut in Japan. On January 20, Crunchyroll released the English dub of the anime. Crunchyroll explains the narrative: The unexpected advent of the "gates"—the pathways connecting our planet with an alternate dimension—more than ten years ago. Some people have since developed supernatural abilities. These people are referred to as "hunters." Hunters are paid to use their abilities to take control of the dungeons within the gates. In this world of hard clients, Jinwoo Sung, the lowly hunter, has earned the nickname "the weakest hunter of all mankind." One day, Jinwoo encounters high-rank double dungeons concealed within a low-rank dungeon, which causes him to suffer deadly injuries. At that moment, a mysterious mission window opens up before him. Jinwoo, who is on the point of death, chooses to accept the mission and begins leveling up, but not the others.
The anime series at A-1 Pictures was directed by Shunsuke Nakashige (Mother of the Goddess' Dormitory), with Noboru Kimura (Gundam Build Divers, Nyaruko: Crawling with Love!) serving as chief writer. Character designs were created by Tomoko Sudo (Alice in Borderland, Fragtime), while Hiroyuki Sawano (Attack on Titan, Blue Exorcist, Kill la Kill, Mobile Suit Gundam UC) handled music composition.
"LEveL," the opening theme song, was performed by BTS sibling idol group TOMORROW X TOGETHER and composer Hiroyuki Sawano (SawanoHiroyuki[nZk]).
Chugong's Solo Leveling novel series was adapted into a manhwa with artwork by DUBU. It debuted on Webtoon platforms in March 2018 and ran until December 2021. The manhwa and original novel series are published in English by Yen Press. Under the title Ore Dake Level-Up na Ken (I'm the Only One Who Has Leveled Up), Kadokawa publishes the manhwa in Japanese.
There is also a live-action Korean adaption based on the manhwa.
